About

Lani Imre

Lani paints in a contemporary style that reflects aspects of illustration, graphics, and street art. She focuses on large-scale oil and acrylic paintings depicting an entourage of female characters. The strong, often defiant characters she creates, touch on themes of female identity and sexual fantasy, while posing commentary on the contradictions evoked by media environments and visual messaging. Lani has exhibited in many cities in Canada as well as Mexico and the United States, including Vancouver, Calgary, Montreal, Halifax, San Francisco, Baltimore, Portland, and San Jose Del Cabo.

After discovering a passion for art at an early age, Lani’s formal training has been varied in both techniques and education. Her degrees include a diploma of art from the Kootenay School of the Arts in Nelson, B.C., and a BFA from the Nova Scotia School of Art and Design University in Halifax. She has also attended Concordia University in Montreal and completed a semester of independent study in Berkeley, California. She has an extensive background in wheel thrown sculptural ceramics, drawing, print making and most recently, painting.

Lani lives and raises her son in beautiful Squamish, BC, while her love of sun and surf draws her to Baja and California as often as possible.
