Phantom Lucy
Acrylic + Oil on Canvas, 44" x 62"
This painting was started live at Basscoast Festival this summer and then completed in my studio in Squamish. I call her "Phantom Lucy" or "Lucy in the sky" due to the ethereal nature of the pastel colours and the use of white in creating the flat, cut-out shape of her figure. However, the mix of warm tones and rendering of her face make her very much alive. I chose foxglove as secondary subjects as I was drawn to their elegant form contrasted by their potential toxicity. The use of lavender or purple in the painting signifies the supernatural, the powerful and the feminine. LUCY calls forth all aspects of intuition, imagination and creativity.
